Best Skyrim Survival Mods For Survival
You might have already read my Skyrim survival diary and otherwise, why not? It sees me struggling to ward off frostbite with wine and adopting the game’s most lovable dog merely to keep my feet warm. In case you want to plod through the winter wastelands of Skyrim‘s Tamriel with the same ‘survival style’ in head yourself, these really are the mods you’ll want to add. Many of them come from an individual source, the Nexus modding community. Before you grab them, it’s a good idea to have their Nexus Mod Manager installed, as well as something called SKSE. (You may also need to enroll to join the Nexus community to download these files). Getting all this architecture in place is a minor frustration in comparison with the progress you’ll see in the end. It’ll be worth it when you find yourself freezing to death under a rocky outcrop with no wood to take up a fire.

Pelt values – Default
Material yield – Moderate or Conservative
Meat yield – Conservative or Single Cut
Knives at Merchants – Common or Uncommon
Disable ‘re-weigh vanilla meat’
Disable hunter’s caches (Optional; I like them.)
Be sure to SET YOUR HOTKEYS! It’s much more immersive and much less troublesome.
Realistic Needs and Diseases
Disable RND’s eating animations if using the Animations mod.
Disable travel gear in favor of Frostfall’s.
Living Takes Time
Enable all modules.
Advanced Options – Disable food distribution – (else You Hunger is useless)
Immersive First Person View
You will have to invest a little extra time to configure this one. Eventually I hope to have a fully-configured preset suitable for posting here, but I lost my saved settings some time ago.
I find that field of view (FOV) should generally be set to 80 on most, if not all profiles.
I also usually move the camera to about forward position 30 on each profile: My basic rule is.. Far enough that I can’t see my face.. Close enough that distance doesn’t look distorted.
Sometime soon I’ll probably throw a basic load order together and set up my profiles again, just to be able to provide settings for the benefit of my users. I used to play with Requiem, IFPV and iHUD; there’s something about hitting a target with a longbow from a hundred paces without a crosshair or autoaim to assist you.
Disable Geared Up (at least until Dragondude updates EO).
Disable camera movement on any (or all) animations if it causes issues or looks awkward.
This is THE survival mod for Skyrim. Should you just get one mod from this list, get Frostfall. It is a detailed bundle of survival mechanics centred around staving off hypothermia. It’s one of these uncommon mods that is so deftly woven into the game it makes you question why it wasn’t included right out of the carton. In fact, it’s so universally respected by Elder Scrolls buffs, you’ve probably already got it.
Frostfall adds a simple ‘exposure’ meter and random spells of bad weather, like blizzards. In heavy snow you may get cold very fast, penalising you with lower stamina and wellness regeneration. Some portions of the map will probably be colder than others (the mountain of High Hrothgar and also the Northern Coast are devastatingly freezing) but even in Skyrim’s balmier climates the cold still bites when it rains. Rain will make you wet, causing the chilly to gnaw away at you even faster. Falling into freezing water contributes to a insane Bear Grylls fashion scramble to get a fire going, as the cold starts to sap you of all energy.
Wet and Cold
Another great mod which fits with adjustments like Frostfall and Climates of Tamriel.
That is partly an artistic mod however, many functions put in a small bit added compared to that perception of a tough and freezing wilderness. Wet and Cold brings visual effects like passionate breath from individuals and pets when outside, or snow that forms on all characters’ body. Nonetheless it also offers a few more meaty techniques. When traveling in a serious rainstorm or perhaps a blizzard, the player’s perspective will become unclear, rendering it even harder to find out enemies or sites in the distance. Taking refuge or keeping your head down will stave off the consequence. Meanwhile, strong winds will cause a 15% reduction in movement speed.
adds patrols from Skyrims various factions. Sometimes they cross each other and enter fights. You can stay back, watch, laugh and rummage through the pockets of the dead when they are done.
Run For The Lives
makes people behave like true people when confronted with the terrifying threat of a dragon or other scary creatures. Instead of taking out their small stabby blades and looking to eliminate things, they runaway and lock themselves up, leaving only pads to fight off the animals.
SkyUI – super popular mod that declutters and helps Skyrim’s notoriously unwieldy UI.
Sounds of Skyrim – The Wilds – adds additional sound files in to the wild landscape so you can die of coverage while playing the poetic call of the Loon.
An Excellent Worldmap – With Roads – makes the entire world place a great deal more readable by putting detailed streets and wasting away some deep, annoying clouds.
